My name is Timmy Semenza. I go to the movies because they are the most vital source of culture in our country. They tell us what everyone is feeling right now, even if they have to cover it up with gun-wielding apes or Dark Knights to make it palatable. All art is political, and movies are no exception.
I love to write about the movies because it makes me a part of the cultural conversation, even if I'm not actually speaking with anyone in particular. To paraphrase E.M. Forster—how am I supposed to know what I am thinking without a pen in my hand (in my case, it's a laptop)? Any movie that one sees is worth writing about, whether it's in a public venue like this, or in a private one that only you can see. I also believe that any movie out there is worth seeing at least once, if only to draw your attention to what everyone else is looking at. If you spend your entire life watching only Bresson and Ozu, you lose the context of their greatness.
